Tips to Prevent Dengue

The best way to prevent the disease is to prevent bites by infected mosquitoes.

Use mosquito repellent. Choose a repellent containing 20%-30% DEET (diethyltoluamide) or 20% picaridin. Make sure to follow the instructions indicated on the label. When applying repellent and sunscreen, apply sunscreen first then repellent.

Wear light and protective clothing. As much as possible, wear long sleeves and long pants. Choose fabrics that are light-toned and breathable.

Get rid of mosquito habitats. Make sure to dispose of or turn over open containers that hold water. Regularly clean your house especially gutters and get rid of stagnant water.

Secure your window and screen doors. If possible, sleep under a mosquito net.

Practice good hygiene. Mosquitoes are attracted to perfume and sweat. Make it a habit to shower now and then, especially during summer.
