Tips to Avoid Summer Skin Hazards

1. Acne breakouts
Keep a towel or sweat band on hand to blot your skin as you sweat. Wash clothes you’ve sweated in and opt for to use non-comedogenic products on your face, neck, back, and chest.

2. Prickly heat
Wear loose, breathable clothes and keep your skin as dry and cool as possible.

3. Sunburn
Apply sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum protection, SPF30+, and water resistance. Wear wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, sleeves, and long pants to block the sun from reaching your skin.

4. Folliculitis
Make sure your clothes are loose, shave in the direction your hair grows, use shaving gel, and lounge only in known clean hot tubs.

5. Swimmer’s itch
Avoid infested water. When you do swim, rub your skin briskly with a towel afterward to prevent parasites from burrowing in and giving you a rash.

6. Sun allergy
To prevent an allergic skin reaction, consult a medical professional for proper medication. Protect your skin from the sun by seeking shade, wearing sun-protective clothes, and applying sunscreen.

7. Melasma
Apply broad-spectrum SPF30 sunscreen on your face daily and reapply it every 2 hours. Wear a hat and glasses and stay under the shade as much as possible. Also, avoid waxing or harsh skin products that can irritate your skin and make melasma worse.

8. Insect Bites and Stings
Wear repellent or long-sleeved clothing and close-toed shoes to cover skin when you’re out. Avoid bright colors and perfumes.
