Maintaining Mental Wellness Over the Holidays

Here are some tips to help you manage stress and mental health during the holiday season.

1. Focus on what really matters.
Focus on the people in your life, not things. Give your family realistic expectations about gifts. Consider low stress gifts - like charitable giving or subscription services.

2. Manage family & friends.
You don't need to see everyone every year, visit one group per year. Set boundaries on acceptable behavior. Visit for hours, not days. Decide which events you need to attend and those you can skip.

3. Stay healthy.
Plan ahead, make ahead, know and set your limits. Plan for eating and activity levels. Have lots of healthy snacks. Avoid overeating. Get enough sleep and rest. Take time to exercise.

4. Get help if you need it.
Anxiety and depression can be distressing and even dangerous. If you need help with preparations, visits, visitors, shopping or cooking, ask others to give you a hand.
