Hacks For Better Hydration

Water is crucial for the proper functioning of every cell in the body. It aids digestion, prevents constipation, flushes out toxins, promotes kidney health, lubricates joints and muscles, supports healthier and more youthful skin, and regulates body temperature.

Recommended minimum daily intake of water: Women — 11.5 cups, or 92 ounces Men — 15.5 cups, or 124 ounces

Your fluid intake is sufficient if you rarely feel thirsty and your urine is colorless or light yellow. Here are tricks on how to boost your water consumption:

1. Flavor it
Enhance your water with fruit. Lemons, limes, and oranges are classic choices, while cucumber, watermelon, strawberries, and herbs also make delicious additions.

2. Tie it into a routine
Have a glass of water each time you brush your teeth, eat a meal, or use the bathroom.

3. Eat it
Add fruits and vegetables to your meals. Melons, cucumbers, lettuce, and celery have high water content.

4. Track it
Consider getting a high-tech bottle that connects to your smartphone to track your water intake. Alternatively, set an alarm as a reminder and log your consumption in your calendar.

5. Challenge a friend
Start a fun competition with a friend or your kids to see who can reach their hydration goal the most consistently.

6. Take it to go
Staying hydrated while on the go can be difficult. Make sure to fill your water bottle before leaving home and take it with you on your daily activities.

7. Alternate your drinks
If you find it hard to completely cut out soda or juice, try alternating with water. After finishing a glass of water, switch to soda or juice, and vice versa.

Follow these tips to ensure you and your loved ones stay adequately hydrated.
